John David Nelson, of Sabillasville, MD was born March 17, 1942, in Meadow View, Virginia, to the late David T. Nelson and Anna R. Nelson. He was married to the late Patricia M. Nelson, for many long and wonderful years.
John is also preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Moore, and brother, Joseph Nelson.
John is survived by his daughter, Sherry Eckenrode (Jesse). He is survived in addition by his brothers Herb Nelson (Angie), and James Nelson (Joan), sister, Deborah Myers, grandson Scott Eckenrode (Ashley), granddaughter Heather Eckenrode and boyfriend David Baker, grandson Matthew Eckenrode, great grandson’s Alex Baker and Davey Baker Jr., great granddaughters Dixie Eckenrode, Lexie Baker, and Angel Baker, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John worked at Black and Decker as well as on the family farm. He drove trucks for Beall, Keilholtz, Rider, and Charlton Brothers. He had a love for working on vehicles and racing his 64 ½ Ford Mustang at the 75/80 Dragway. John was part owner in a speed shop and loved going too and watching the races whenever he could.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Avenue Thurmont, MD 21788, beginning at 10:00 AM with a funeral service beginning promptly at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Eyler officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
The family would also like to thank Alyssa and Connie with Grane Hospice for the wonderful care of their father. They would also like to thank the Mercy Hospice House for the care of their father in the short time he was there. In addition, the family would also like to give a special thanks too Michaux Manor, where John lived for a little over two years.
