Robert L. "Bob" Green , age 77 of Thurmont,MD, passed peacefully December 31,2024 at Frederick Health Hospital, Frederick,MD.
Robert is proceeded in death, in addition to his parents, by his uncles and aunts , John and Helen Shorb,and Theodore and Evelyn Forrest. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and son, Jason.
Born in Frederick,MD on December 14, 1947, son of the late Lee Sherwood Green & RoseMary Shorb. He was a Thurmont High School graduate , class of 1965. During high school , he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America, serving as chapter president from1964-1965, under Advisor Bill Baker, later receiving his American FFA degree. After graduation,he attended The Lincoln Electric Company school for Arc Welding in Cleveland,Ohio, becoming a certified Welder.
Bob began his extensive welding career at Frederick Welding , owned by Charlie Hartman, who became his mentor. This led to opening his own business, R.L.Green Welding around 1972.Later in his career , he semi-retired as a maintenance mechanic at The Maryland School For The Deaf, Frederick campus.
With an agricultural background , his hobbies included raising polled hereford cattle , and walking horses. This led to involvement with the Thurmont Riding Club, and numerous trail rides, the highlight being the 1976 Bicentennial wagon train. He also enjoyed hunting in Maryland and West Virginia. Over the years , attended many area steam and gas shows ,which led to collecting and restoring antique tractors and equipment , particularly John Deere with his son,Jason. He also became inspired to create a replica of a 1909 Sears motor buggy.He was a member of numerous steam and gas/ antique tractor clubs, including Rough &Tumble Engineers Historical Association, The Waterloo Boys of Southeastern Pa, Cumberland Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Association , Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association, Central MD Antique Tractor Club, and others.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mt Tabor Church Activities Building, 10043 Longs Mill Rd, Rocky Ridge, MD 21778, on Saturday, February 1st, at 11AM.
Robert's care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home of Sabillasville, MD.
