Rebecca “Becky” Hand Freeze, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 23, 2026, at her home.
Born on September 15, 1947, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Becky was the daughter of the late Oliver Theodore Hand and Rose Marie (Farmer) Hand.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald “Jerry" Freeze; her grandsons, Riston Gene Quill, Charles David Quill, and Sean Michael Chilson; and her granddaughter, Mackenzie Danielle Freeze.
Becky was a 1965 graduate of Laurel High School, where she served as vice president of the student government. From an early age, she demonstrated the determination, strong work ethic, and attention to detail that would become hallmarks of her life.
Becky had a special gift for making everything around her beautiful. Whether tending to her lovely yard and gardens, creating a welcoming home, or transforming the family's restaurant, Cozy, with her beautiful seasonal decorations, she had a vision for how things should look and was determined to bring it to life. She poured her heart into every detail, and her creativity and unmistakable personal style were evident in everything she touched.
Becky was a woman with a strong personality, and a determination to see things done just right. She was never shy about sharing her thoughts or offering a little direction along the way. Once Becky had a vision, everyone around her knew there was a plan, and she was more than happy to make sure they followed it. Yet, alongside that strong personality was a woman who never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, leaving a lasting impression wherever she went.
Becky's faith was an important part of her life. As a longtime member of Victory Tabernacle in Thurmont, she faithfully served her church family, teaching Sunday School for many years and sharing her love of decorating by making the church beautiful for holidays and changing seasons.
Above all, Becky's greatest joy was her family. She especially treasured her grandchildren and the precious moments they shared. Trips to Ocean City held a special place in her heart, creating memories that will continue to be cherished by those she loved. While she took great pride in her many accomplishments, it was her family that meant the most to her.
Becky leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory, including her sons, David Quill Jr (Vicky), John Quill (Sarah), and Gerald Freeze (Aileen); her daughters, Stephanie Moss (Brian), Susie Freeze, and Jenny Freeze; her grandchildren, Seth, Jorden, Lindsey, Jacob, Haley, Levi, Jameson, Courtney, Trey, Ethan, Isaac, Curtis, Kiley, Cami, Alaina, Ezra, Parker, Blake, Dakota, Alexis and Tristin; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Donald “Rusty” Hand (Cheryl); nieces, Dana Park (Steve), April Clark (Jeff), Laurie Hand, and Kerry Fox (Robert) as well as her best friends, Billie Krider, Linda Barkman (Carlie), and Donna Helms.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Avenue, Thurmont, Maryland, with Pastor David Quill Jr officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am and funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Becky’s name to Victory Tabernacle, P.O. Box 174, Thurmont, MD 21788.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home.
