It is with the saddest regret we announce that Owen “Lee” “Hippy” Hawes of Thurmont Maryland passed away peacefully at his home on May 12, 2026.

Born on April 30, 1975, he was the son of Owen and Roxanne Hawes. Lee was an amazing hunter and fisherman. If it was in season he was hunting it, including mushrooms. He also loved spending time with his family and was a huge Mopar fan. Owen also worked as a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his children Leeah Doyle and Leesa Hawes (Jimmy Stoey), his granddaughter (Hazel Stoey), and a brother Paul Lewis.

Owen is also survived by his aunt and uncle Donna and Dickie Wiles and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be lovingly remembered by his “sister” Penny Moser and his caregiver Tammy, his “hair girl”.

Graveside services will be held on Friday May,22 at 11AM, at Mount Bethel Cemetery: 14110 Stottlemyer Rd, Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Jeffery Shaw Officiating.
