January 16, 1930 – March 5, 2026
Ned Pierce Haynes, 96, of Thurmont passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Maryland. Born January 16, 1930, in Clendinin, West Virginia, he was the son of the late William Lewis and Eva Bell (Chandler) Haynes.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Erie Haynes, Roger Haynes, Eugene Haynes, Kenneth Haynes, sister Bly Bonham, and brother-in-law Joe Bonham.
Ned was the owner of the Crow’s Nest Campground in Thurmont, MD. He was a veteran aboard the USS Quincy in the US Navy, while traveling the world, met his Wife while he was employed at the Charleston Gazette and got married on May 20, 1961. He was a big Washington Red Skin’s fan and enjoyed golf, bowling, nature walks and the outdoors and enjoyed his tractor. In his youth, Ned sang in the Choir and played basketball and football. For entertainment, he loved Gunsmoke and westerns, the Big Bang Theory, and was a WV University and MD Terrapins fan. Ned was a AFL-CIO union member, and retired as a Linotype machine operator from the Baltimore Sun. He also drove a school bus for FCPS, was a member the Thurmont American Legion, and went to the southern School of Printing in Mobile, AL.
He is survived by his Wife, Renna Haynes, son Mark Haynes, daughter Kim Beaven (Bill);grandchildren Nicholas Beaven (Mandy) and Casey Beaven, greatgrandchildren Jimmy and Chloe, nephews Mike Bonham and Mike Haynes, and sister-in-law Deloris Parsons.
The family is deeply grateful to the 4th floor nursing staff at Frederick Health Hospital and the Thurmont Ambulance Service.
Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.
Ned’s care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home of Sabillasville, MD.
