Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lavana Lynn Meacham, age 52, of Frederick, Maryland, on January 20, 2026, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Lynn was first and always a devoted mother, wife, daughter, and sister. She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Putman, who was the center of her world; her husband, Eric Meacham; and her family members Manda Meacham, Debra, Shannon, Matthew Stitley, and Tracy Ellis. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, James “Jimmy” Layton and Flossie “Beanine” Layton, as well as her brothers, Tony Smith and Dale Stitley, and her nephew Wyatt Smith.

Caring for others was not just what Lynn did—it was who she was. Throughout her life, she poured her heart into helping people, whether through her work as a nursing technician at Glade Elementary School, as a food service worker at Mountain Manor Rehabilitation Facility, or while working alongside her father at the Lewistown Fire Department. Lynn had an instinct for knowing when someone needed comfort, support, or simply a listening ear, and she never hesitated to give of herself.

Lynn lived life with fire and passion. She loved excitement and adventure but also cherished the quiet, meaningful moments—tending to her plants, crafting, watching crime television shows, and snuggling with the family cat, Snooki. The beach was her happy place, where she could relax in the sun, breathe in the ocean air, and search for shark teeth along the shore.

Those who knew Lynn will remember her strength, her big heart, and her unwavering willingness to put others before herself. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will continue to be felt in the lives of everyone she touched.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Lewistown Fire Hall in Lewistown, MD on February 28th, from 1-4pm.

Lavana's Care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home of Sabillasville, MD.
