Obituary

Jose Pablo Antonio Coronado Melgar passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026 at his home in Silver Spring, MD. Born on January 16, 1955 in Guatemala City, Guatemala as the eldest child of José Pablo Coronado Robles, a diplomat, businessman, and colonel in the Guatemalan military, and Martha Melgar Baca, a homemaker and artist. Pablo was a 1973 graduate of the Liceo Guatemala.

He was the doting father to six children: Maria del Rosario, Jose Pablo, Edgar Mauricio, Diego Jose, Jose Gonzalo, and Jose Gabriel.

An avid entrepreneur, Pablo founded many successful small businesses in Guatemala. In 2001, he moved to Florida with three of his kids, after which time he worked mainly as a caregiver and cook in various assisted living facilities, before eventually settling in Maryland in 2013.

In his free time, Pablo enjoyed reading, watching TV, and spending time with his children.

He was predeceased by both his parents, and his beloved grandparents, Enrique "Guayo" Melgar de la Cerda and Carlota Emilia "Lottie" Baca Díaz. His son Diego also predeceased him shortly after birth.

He is survived by his five remaining children, his brother Enrique and sister Maria Martha, many nieces and nephews, as well as his two grandchildren, Pablo Enrique and Matias Adriel.

Pablo will be fondly remembered by his friends and loved ones for his kindness, sensitivity, humor, and intelligence.

May the light of Christ shine upon him.

A graveside service will be held 1 PM on FRIDAY June 19, 2026 at Blue Ridge Cemetery; 121 N. Altamont Ave. Thurmont, MD 21788.

Jose's care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home of Sabillasville.
