James Russell Burkett, 88 of Greencastle died September 25, 2026, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born June 10, 1938, in Hagerstown, Maryland he was the son of the late Henry and Doris nee Ashby Burkett.

James enjoyed watching dirt track racing, tinkering around the house, camping especially his trips to Florida. He was a member of the former Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church of Greencastle where he served in many roles in the bus ministry, driving church member to and from the church as well as the Good News Club. Most recently, James attended the Otterbein United Brethren Church also of Greencastle.

Left to mourn is his beloved wife Dorothy whom he shared 64 years of marriage; his son Doug (Sue); grandchildren Brandon, Nikki, & Shelby; and great-grandchildren Eisely, Bryson & Rhys.

Graveside services will be held at Grand Point Church Cemetery: 3664 Coseytown Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225 on THURSDAY October 1, 2026 at 11 AM with Pastor David Rawley officiating.

James’s care has been entrusted to Black’s Funeral Home.
