Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Gene Freeze, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 14, 2025. Born May 28, 1936, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Wilbur Ross and Mary Louise (Gehr) Freeze. He lived a meaningful life marked by service, hard work, and steadfast devotion to those he loved.

Jerry answered his country's call by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably for several years, earning the respect of his comrades and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to duty.

In civilian life, Jerry was the owner of Cozy Restaurant and Motel. He created a gathering place where people from all walks of life could come together. Over the decades, the family's establishment became more than a business- it was a second home for weary travelers, families on vacation, and locals alike. Jerry was honored to host dignitaries and former presidents, and he took special pride in the restaurant's generous buffets, festive decorations, and the laughter that lingered long after plates were cleared. Through his leadership, employees became friends, guests became regulars, and the Cozy became a regional landmark.

Above all, Jerry cherished his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Rebecca "Becky" Hand Freeze; children Jenny Freeze (Rob Jones), Gerald Freeze II (Aileen), Susie Freeze; stepchildren David Quill Jr (Vicky), Stephanie Moss (Brian), John Quill (Sarah); and many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Deeply committed to his community, Jerry was a member of Victory Tabernacle of Thurmont and the Thurmont American Legion Post 168. He served actively with the Thurmont Lions Club, Thurmont Jaycees, Colorfest, and the Tourist Council of Frederick County. He believed success is not measured solely by profit, but by kindness, integrity, and the lives you touch—a principle he lived every day.
