It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Ms. Betty Jean Heims, 66, of 146 Emmitsburg Road, Thurmont, Maryland. She now watches over us after passing away peacefully Saturday, March 1 at her home after a seven-month journey with lung cancer, leaving a void that will not be easily filled.

Betty was born in Gettysburg, PA, May 2, 1958, to Richard H. and Mary J. Shoemaker.

Proceeding in joining the Lord is her sister, Debbie Donaldson, and her brothers, Richard Shoemaker Jr and Wayne Shoemaker.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Robert L. Heims of Gettysburg, PA and Kevin D. Heims and wife Kim of Rocky Ridge, MD. She is survived in addition by one grandson, three great grandchildren, a host of friends and lovely business clients, who were also dear to her.

Betty had a lifetime of struggles but never lost her faith nor her generosity, though she was a person of little means. She enjoyed Sunday morning TV, Church, and spending time with her son. Never being blessed with resources, Betty gave of herself by cooking for others, helping with chores and giving her time the best she could. Although Betty is gone, she lives on in our hearts and will be forever missed by those that knew her best.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate your time to a charitable cause or worthy gathering where your time or presence is more valuable than money.
