Timothy Gilbert Obituary

Timothy Alvin Gilbert of Falling Waters, WV passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2019.

 

Born August 31st, 1943 in Oakland California he was the son of the late Orval Alvin Gilbert and Lillian Etzler.

 

Tim went to and graduated from Berry College and University of Georgia. He served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Marine Corp Tim discovered his true passion for Martial Arts. Over the next 40 years Tim became a Grandmaster and achieved the rank of Hachidan Renshi, and has Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do, Kobujitsu and Shorin Ryu. Grandmaster Tim went on to become the martial arts advisor to the Kodomo Dance Company and his student performed annually at the Cherry Blossom Festivals in Washington D.C.

 

In 1983 Tim opened up his own Karate Academy named Gilbert’s Academy of Martial Arts in southern Maryland. He promoted nearly 30 Black Belts in Shorin Ryu and helped hundreds of children and adults to become more confident and successful individuals. Grandmaster Tim has been honored by the Eastern USA International Martial Arts Academy and was awarded a Ph.D. in Martial Arts. Grandmaster Tim will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather.

 

Tim is survived by his wife of 46 years Linda Gilbert, grandchildren Nicholas Campbell, Jervon Dre, Jamarel, Jarett, Tae France and Darrius Gray. Great children Ronald Hutton and Riley Duckwerth. Great great grandson Kareem Campbell, Nieces Susan Supinger and Carla Zacher, and Nephew Tommy Crane.

                                                                     

Timothy’s care has been entrusted to Black’s Funeral Home.
