Thomas Edward Leatherman, 65 of Wolfsville went home to be with his beloved wife Janene on Monday June 4, 2018.
Thomas was born July 14, 1952 and raised on the family farm in Wolfsville, MD. He was the son of the late Carroll Charles and Rebecca Louise (Shank) Leatherman.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Janene Kay Leatherman of whom he was married to 32 years, a brother Stephen, sister-in law(s) Diane & Carolyn (Cookie) Leatherman, and Judy King.
Upon marrying Janene Oyler, he built his home on the hill at the top of the farm where he resided with his family. His house and farm were cherished cornerstones in his life. He would spend days farming the land, where each July he held his renowned picnic for family and friends.
He was a 1970 graduate of Middletown High School, and continued as one of its loudest band supporters in the years to follow, including serving as Band Booster President.
Thomas was formally employed by Grove Crane in Chambersburg, PA, and more recently employed at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, MD where he served as an industrial mechanic until his retirement in 2014.
He was an avid fan of the University of Maryland Terrapins, New York Yankees, and Washington Capitals. He also had a passion for hunting, fishing and Nascar; and particularly enjoyed trips to Dover, DE to watch the race.
He is survived by his son Thomas E. Leatherman II and wife Hilery; a daughter Rhonda Wastler and husband Jared; his brother Mark W. Leatherman & wife Merrilee; grandchildren Katelyn E. Wastler, Alexandra I Wastler, Thomas E. Leatherman III, Madison Leatherman, Garrett Leatherman, Rebecca Leatherman; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Thomas’s life will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church: 12704 Wolfsville Rd. Smithsburg, MD 21783 at 2 o’clock with Pastor(s) Tim & Donna Ritchey Martin & Dave Howell officiating. Inurnment follow in St. Mark’s Cemetery.
