Evelyn Yvonne (Mathias) Beard

Evelyn Yvonne Beard, 76 of Thurmont passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 1, 2018 at the Gettysburg Hospital.

Born on February 6, 1942 she was the daughter of the late John Mathias & Sarah Utz-Sombrano. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers David & Ralph Mathias, sisters Carol “Sue” Robertson & Nina Warner and her special dog Duke.

Whether watching her grandchildren play baseball and softball or having a family picnic where macaroni salad was her specialty, family was important to Evelyn and was the center of her world. Being called Nana was the highlight of her life. She enjoyed bowling and sewing.  She was an avid Orioles fan and enjoyed watching the game with her bright orange crocheted blanket named Manny Machado. She loved watching westerns with her favorite actor John “Duke” Wayne, she even named her beloved dog Duke after him.

Evelyn leaves behind her husband Charles, whom she married December 13, 1958; her daughters Carol Faircloth (Steve), Patricia Beard, Kimberly Rohrbaugh (Ross); siblings George Mathias (Linda), Linda Prisco (Tony), sister in law Ann Smith; her grandchildren George Sickle (Renee), Amanda Haines (Mike), Matthew Sickle (Alyssa), Sarah Rohrbaugh (Greg), Travis Rohrbaugh, Jacob Fisher (Jordyn), Tia Minthorne, Megan Minthorne; her great-grandchildren Kaylee, Ryan, Nathan, Emily, Colleen, Matthew, Julissa, Carson, Calvin, Joshua, Neveah, Jace; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family. Evelyn’s care has been entrusted to Black’s Funeral Home of Thurmont.
