Ellis "Mac" Ray McDonough Jr.

Ellis “Mac” Ray McDonough Jr., 74 of Thurmont passed away after a long battle with cancer on Saturday June 9, 2018 at his home. 

Born on September 7, 1943 in Clarksburg, Maryland he was the son of the late Ellis Ray and Violet Virginia Johnson McDonough.

Mac enjoyed playing a variety of sports in his younger years, especially baseball and track. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many pleasurable hours hunting and fishing. He also loved to cook and throw parties for his family and friends.

He served four years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea and was honorably discharged in 1965.

Mac leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Kathy; daughters Kelly Steele (Al); Kristin Hamrick (Mark); Ava Evans; son Walter Borgen and wife Jessica; sister Cheryl Snyder; grandchildren Allison, Scott and Chad Steele, Lyndsey, Makenzieand Carley Borgen; Cody and Julia Hamrick; niece Amy Beall and daughter Bri Swyter.  Mac is also survived by Jason Dutrow, a dear cousin who was like a son to him.

A celebration of Mac's life will be held on Friday June 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eyler's Valley Chapel, 7504 Hampton Valley Rd, Emmitsburg, MD 21727, with reception to follow.

Mac's care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home of Thurmont.
